Adoniram Lodge of Mark Master Masons. No.552
Westhoughton Masonic Hall, Peel St, Westhoughton
Wednesday 16th March 2022

Today it’s a trip to Adoniram Mark Lodge at Westhoughton, glorious morning, has spring arrived, well you never know, the sun is shining, the birds are singing and we got up the ramp near the Barton High Level Bridge on to the M60 in one go, what’s the world coming too. No traffic jams joined the M61 and even came off at the right junction (for a change), and before too long we were pulling up at the Hall. For anyone who hasn’t been to Westhoughton so far it’s a really nice Hall, had a listen to where the voices were coming from and made my way upstairs to find lots of rooms to leave your case in whilst having a mooch round, only thing is I couldn’t find which one it was when it was time to get ready!!
The meeting started on time at 11am, yes 11am which has always been the Tradition for this Installed Masters Lodge, of course everyone is still welcome to attend even if you haven’t yet made it to the Masters Chair of your own lodge, generally if you receive an honour in Provincial Grand Lodge you join the prestigious Adoniram Lodge which now has 211 members.

A number of general items were dealt with such as minutes confirmation, Treasurers accounts and a ballot was taken for three Joining Members, next it was the Election for the WM for the ensuing year which on this occasion the ballot was left in the hands of the Wardens and proved unanimously in favour of W.Bro. Andrew Dickson (to his surprise), he did say he was delighted for the honour and looked forward to the Installation. You may have realised that this special Lodge doesn’t work quite like other Mark Lodge’s, as anyone chosen for an office by the WM and the executive is deemed to be an honour. Next up we were treated to an excellent talk regarding “Masons Marks” given by our Asst PGM W.Bro. Giles Berkely PGJD who stood in for W.Bro. Dr. Paul Renton AGDC who unfortunately had just taken ill, It was really interesting and loud acclaim followed.
The secretary was then delighted to inform the members of the Lodge that it had received the Mark Benevolent Fund Gold Award for its many donations, our PGM Keith was then equally delighted to present the Jewel and Collar to the WM which is to be worn at every meeting.

Before closing the PGM proposed that the Lodge should make a Donation of £500  via the West Lanc’s Mark Charity Fund to help the very needy people in the Ukraine, this was Seconded by our Dep PGM VW Bro. Geoffrey Lee PGJO and passed unanimously by all present.
The meeting was closed and  everyone made their way downstairs to charge their glasses and have a good old chin wag before taking up their allotted seats at the Festive Board, an excellent meal was served up by the friendly and very efficient staff, the usual Toasts and Responses were given and well received and that was it, another great meeting was over.
Everyone said their goodbyes and gave the usual genuine handshakes until we meet again, we did get back to Urmston in reasonable time even though it wasn’t the same way we had come by, here’s looking forward to the next Magic Mark Meeting to see old friends and those I have yet to meet,
Remember your only a stranger once, Mark Well.
